Green Tea
Green tea is tea at its freshest: the leaves are heated soon after picking to stop oxidation, keeping their bright color and sweet, vegetal flavor. Our first green tea comes from the mountains of Georgia, in the Caucasus.

Tea at its freshest
Green tea is the least oxidized of the tea families. Soon after picking, the leaves are heated, by pan-firing or steaming, which stops them from browning and locks in their color and fresh flavor. Depending on the plant, the land and the method, the cup ranges from grassy and vegetal to sweet and nutty.
Our green tea
Hero of Winter is an organic green tea from Imereti, in the Republic of Georgia. It is made from Kartuli #8, a frost-hardy Georgian cultivar that rests through months of winter cold each year. Expect a smooth, sweet cup with notes of sweet corn, edamame and hazelnut.
How to brew green tea
Most green teas like water below boiling and short steeps, because very hot water can draw out bitterness. Hero of Winter is sturdier than most: it takes soft water just off the boil, about 20 seconds for the first gongfu steep, and gives up to 12 rounds. See our brewing guide for more.
Questions about green tea
Does green tea have caffeine?
Yes. All true tea contains caffeine. Green tea also contains L-theanine, which many drinkers find makes for a calmer, more focused kind of energy.
How should I store it?
Sealed, cool and away from light and strong smells. Green tea tastes best within about a year of harvest, so enjoy it rather than saving it.
