Field guide
Three tools, every tea
You don't need a cabinet of teaware to brew great loose leaf tea. These three pieces cover almost everything, from a quick morning pot to a long gongfu session with one of our rare oolongs.
What each one does
- Bone Porcelain Gaiwan: a 100 ml lidded bowl for gongfu brewing. Thin, neutral porcelain shows a tea's true aroma, and it is the best first tool to buy.
- Glass Cha Hai pitcher: a 250 ml fairness pitcher. Decant each infusion into it so every cup tastes the same.
- Glass Tea Pot with Strainer: a 200 ml pot with a steel infuser for simple everyday brewing. Steep, lift, pour, and watch the leaves unfurl.
Questions
Which one should I buy first?
The gaiwan. Add the pitcher when you start brewing for two or more, so every cup is poured at the same strength.
Gaiwan or glass teapot?
The gaiwan is for gongfu style: more leaf, less water and many short steeps. The glass teapot is the easy option for one longer steep, western style. Both work with every tea we sell.
