Old Mountain Tea Guarantee

Why every tea we sell is guaranteed clean — and how you can taste the proof.

Our teas are guaranteed free from harmful chemicals. We source directly from small, clean family farms that take real pride in their work — no middlemen, no anonymous blends. Many of these teas are bug-bitten, and leafhoppers only feed on gardens grown without pesticides, so the leaf itself is living proof the garden is clean. Every tea is grown to organic standards and traceable to the farm that made it. The terroir is just as important to us as the rare cultivars we source, and knowing exactly where the tea comes from helps ensure the quality is always up to Old Mountain Tea Standards. For us, "provenance" means that these teas can theoretically be traced by anyone directly to the location, farm, and even sometimes to the exact section of the tea farm that was sold to us.

Clean family farms, directly sourced

We buy tea directly from tea processors, and small family farms we know by name — no anonymous blends, just people we have met in person and can trust based on the quality of the product. These are tea people who take real pride in their gardens and happily show us the places were our tea grows. Directly communicating with them helps us also track down new leads on rare and sometimes "lost" cultivars of indescribable value.

Bug-bitten leaf is living proof

Many of our teas are bug-bitten: tiny leafhoppers nibble the leaves and the plant responds with its signature honeyed, fruity aromatics. Leafhoppers will only settle on gardens grown without pesticides — so the flavor in the cup is itself the guarantee that the garden is clean and connected with the flora and fauna of the natural surroundings.

Grown to organic standards

Our teas are ALWAYS grown without synthetic pesticides or chemical fertilizers. Healthy soil and slow cultivation are the tools used to grow Old Mountain Teas, which is better for the land, the farmers, and everything you steep.

Traceable to the source

Every tea we sell can be traced back to the farm, season, and location it came from. If you ever want to know exactly where your tea was grown and how it was made, just ask! We can tell you.
