The "cha hai": a "fairness pitcher" or serving pitcher (gong dao bei); a small but essential part of a gong-fu tea session. You decant the finished infusion from your gaiwan or teapot into the pitcher, then pour from the pitcher into each cup, so every cup is exactly the same strength and no one is left with an over-steeped last pour.

Made from clear borosilicate glass, it stands up to boiling water and lets you read the color of the steep (a quick, honest gauge of how a steep is developing). The generous 250 ml capacity easily serves a full table of small gongfu cups from a single infusion.
