It was originally prized for its versatility and hearty growth capabilities, suited to make several types of tea including \"Honey Black\" or \"Red Oolong\". This tea plant eventually moved to a tea production center in the southeast of Taiwan called Taitung. It has also contributed to the lineage of other teas, including as a \"grandparent\" plant of \u003cstrong\u003eTTES No. 20 (Ying Xiang)\u003c\/strong\u003e.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan class=\"svelte-1fz0gqk\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"svelte-1fz0gqk fade-in\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe \u003cstrong\u003eleaves are characteristically large and substantial\u003c\/strong\u003e, the thick leaf tissue also contributes to a unique quality for this tea. The plant compound, Pectin, can often be found in the actual tea leaves and can add a pleasant viscosity to the final result of the brewed tea! This Da Ye Oolong thus \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan class=\"svelte-1fz0gqk\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"svelte-1fz0gqk fade-in\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003ehas a remarkably \u003cstrong\u003esoft, rounded, almost syrup-like texture\u003c\/strong\u003e. It does not feel intense like a heavily charcoal-roasted tea. Instead, the texture is smooth and silky, carrying sweetness across the whole mouth before disappearing into \u003cstrong\u003ea clean finish, and a bright aftertaste. \u003c\/strong\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan class=\"svelte-1fz0gqk\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"svelte-1fz0gqk fade-in\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eGrown in Luye Township, Taitung, and produced in spring 2025, this small-batch tea was l\u003cstrong\u003eightly bug-bitten, lightly oxidized and lightly roasted\u003c\/strong\u003e—very unusual combination since most of this tea is typically processed into the local specialty \"Red Oolong\". The taste is \u003cstrong\u003erefreshing and full of botanicals,\u003c\/strong\u003e with a distinctive \u003cstrong\u003ebuttery poundcake aroma\u003c\/strong\u003e, honey-like sweetness, ripe fruit and the very interesting mouth-feel from the syrupy texture.
